"Run often. Run long. But never outrun your joy of running"
This is a great quote by Julie Isphording. It's a helpful reminder too.
You love running, but does it sometimes feel like it’s slipping into the category of obligation rather than privilege? Especially if you’re training for an event, and you feel like you "should" get out or you won't do as well as you could.
This can be dangerous territory, so occasionally it’s helpful to remember; "I do this for fun, this isn't supposed to be a chore".
This can be especially true if running plays a large part in managing your mental health. By viewing running as a chore, it becomes another one of the pressures and demands you’re trying trying to escape.
Instead of easing anxiety, it elevates it.
Taking a break can be helpful. Removing all pressure to "perform" and "do well". Not worrying if a training plan goes completely out the window.
Remove all pressure to excel, and just get back to the joy in simply getting out on the trails for no other reason than you're outside and it makes you feel good.
Doing Pilates can feel the same too. Getting caught up using it to "improve" and you can forget to do it just because it feels good. Because it calms your mind. Because it restores balance mentally and physically for you.
